VMO2 colleague engagement
How we helped Virgin Media O2 transform Colleague Communication and boost employee NPS by 57 points.
The challenge
Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) faced a major internal disconnect. Despite a massive £2bn annual infrastructure investment, external reports named them the UK's "most complained about provider" for broadband services.
The hardest hit were their 16,000+ frontline employees, who faced daily customer frustration while battling network gaps in their own lives. Skepticism was rife and only 60% of colleagues felt confident discussing the mobile network.
The solution
We stopped telling colleagues things were improving and started showing them, designing a high-impact campaign focused on meaningful Employee Engagement.
- The Immersive Trailer Tour: We built an interactive, on-the-road festival of engineering that travelled directly to critical operational hubs.
- Ditching Corporate Decks: We transformed traditional Internal Communications by replacing slide presentations with guided expert tours, interactive broadband models, and real customer audio.
- True Insider Access: We gave colleagues unprecedented access to the tech and minds behind the rollout.
- Sustained EX Integration: We embedded this transparency into the long-term Employee Experience (EX) via SharePoint learning modules and leadership town halls.
The Awards
This internal shift paved the way for major external success, with VMO2 winning "Most Reliable Broadband Provider" at the 2025 Uswitch Telecoms Awards.
Not only that, the campaign won three Gold awards at the Internal Communications and Engagement Awards in 2026.
3,000
Record Attendance: Over 3,000 employees attended the live experience in person, completely smashing the initial target of 2,000.
+57
Surging Advocacy: Delivered a massive +57 point eNPS increase for mobile networks and a +37 point eNPS increase for fixed networks.
92%
Empowered Teams: An incredible 92% of colleagues walked away feeling completely confident explaining network upgrades to customers.
