Everything you’ve always wanted to know about the brains behind the brands and the… umm… talent that can help you get the most from today’s digital world.
Each issue we introduce you to some of the clever people who make our business tick, and this month it’s Soph.
Now, no-one likes hearing the words ‘air traffic control’ and ‘accident’ in the same sentence, but in this case, we’ll make an exception. Why? Because despite everyone claiming this, Soph really did fall into people comms quite by accident. And it was while she was working on a National Air Traffic Control project, of all things. Here’s how her career got off the ground…
Whilst studying Graphic Arts at Winchester School of Art, Soph got the opportunity to work with National Air Traffic Control on a live project. Her challenge was to design a campaign/solution that would attract Air Traffic Controllers and help retain them during the notoriously tricky first 8 weeks of the training programme.
It was her first taste of people comms and she loved it, so you can just imagine her joy when she caught wind of an ace employer branding agency, tackling problems just like that everyday, just down the road.
Hmmm… now who could she have meant?
Fast forward to today, and Soph’s been one of the team for almost 2 years now, getting stuck into all things employer brand - from developing and delivering HUME (our EVP research tool), to playing a big hand in delivering an award winning, industry first chatbot, too!
We caught up with her to find out what she’s been reading, watching and listening to, and hear all about that one thing she couldn't live without…
“I’m currently re-reading Thinking, fast and slow by Daniel Kahneman. It’s all about human intuition and how we use the rational and emotional sides of our brain. I first read it at uni and it totally changed the way I approached challenges and problems - I can’t recommend it enough!”
“I was a bit late to the game with this one, but I recently finished watching Big Little Lies. A powerful storyline, incredible acting and a brilliant soundtrack… what more could you want? Plus it’s got me very giddy to road trip around California in a few weeks time!“
“A bit of Neil Young or Dylan was always blasting out in the car growing up, so there’ll be no surprises that I’m a big fan of bluesy folky rock. I’ve been loving Alabama Shakes recently, Sound & Colour is a great listen.”
“It’s going to sound really boring, but if I could only own one thing it would have to be a comb. There’s nothing that a good ponder whilst coming your hair can’t solve. I probably do it about 20 times a day… minimum.”
