Everything you’ve always wanted to know about the brains behind the brands and the… umm… talent that can help you get the most from today’s digital world.
Each issue we introduce you to some of the clever people who make our business tick, and this month it’s our creative enigma, John (with an H) Winney.
When it comes to experience, John’s been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, and probably worn it out, too. With a creative career that began with a junior art director role around 20 years ago, he’s seen it all – which means that now that he’s on the team, we’ve stepped up our creativity game another notch or ten.
He’s spent the last 15 years in an agency in Manchester city centre, and in his own words has “always wanted to travel”.
Well, you got your wish John… Welcome to Leeds!
By now, you should already know the drill – we asked John if he could read, listen to, watch and own one thing, what would they be. Here’s what he told us…
“If I had to read one book for the rest of my life I would choose The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan. It’s one of those picture books that has so many layers that you see something new every time you read it. The story has a great moral too - sometimes you need to open your eyes to what's around you... there's a place for everyone and everything.”
“I would choose Disclosure's Moog for love to listen to but as this is only a three track EP it may be a bit much for the rest of my life so how about Kasabian's 48:13.”
“Watching would have to be Star Wars, any of the original three. I watch it every Christmas without fail, that and Die Hard, it's not Christmas until Hans Gruber says 'Ho, Ho... Ho'.”
“If I could own something for the rest of my life it would be the family dogs. That doesn't need any further explanation - other than a shared appreciation of football and biscuits.”
