Everything you've always wanted to know about the brains behind the brands and the talent that can help you get the most from today's digital world.
Each issue we introduce you to some of the clever people who make our business tick, and this month it's animator, illustrator, designer, and… er… perfectionist, Dave Burley.
Since busting out his felt tips 12 years ago, Dave has been lucky enough to work with and learn from some of the biggest and best known names in the industry. After starting out at Cosgrove Hall and Aardman as a designer and animator, he's gone on to spend the last seven years producing illustration, animation, film, video and design work for various agencies and clients across a variety of media.
Some pretty impressive agencies too, if we do say so ourselves.
Whatever the project, Dave says he always aims to bring individuality, character, something new, and a lot of thought and care. Some people might call him a 'perfectionist', but as far as he's concerned, he's just ‘doing it proper!’
As usual, we spent a few minutes picking Dave's brains, and we asked him if he could only listen to, watch, read and own one thing for the rest of his life, what would they be? Here's what he said…
Read - '100 Years of Solitude' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Majestic, weird and a pleasure to get lost in.
Watch - hands down it would be 'Jaws'. Never gets old - great story, great music, great performances. It's impossible to watch it and not enjoy the experience.
Listen - Pretty much anything by Bowie or Radiohead (and yes, even the plink-plonk bleep-bloop stuff that everyone else hates)
Own - I'd really love my own bottom-of-the-garden studio space - ok, it would essentially be a fancy man-shed, but somewhere between a Grand Design or a George Clark Amazing Spaces would be perfect!
