Everything you’ve always wanted to know about the brains behind the brands and the… umm… talent that can help you get the most from today’s digital world.
Each issue we introduce you to some of the clever people who make our business tick, and this month it’s the ink-redible Steve from Simple Displays.
Steve has worked in the printing industry since… well… forever, apparently. He got hooked after picking up a bunch of John Bull Printing Kits as a kid, and after serving his apprenticeship in Leeds in the late 80s and crossing paths with Graham (aka G Fonk), went on to work for some of the industry's biggest hitters.
Until, one day, he casually said "why aren't we doing this ourselves?". He went straight out and picked up some slightly larger and a tad more sophisticated 'John Bull Kits' and Simple Displays was born - and the rest is history.
His philosophy is: do our very best, on time, every time, and keep it simple, and he says it’s the fantastic, eclectic mix of clients that makes his job fresh, exciting and rewarding.
When he's not printing, Steve's into open water swimming and makes regular trips to Salford Quays on Saturday mornings for a swim… quickly followed by a large coffee. And his latest obsession is his 18 month old Boston Terrier - who’s super cute even with her dodgy eyes. As Lisa said recently, "she has one eye looking towards Leeds and the other towards Halifax". Nice!
In between stapling and corner cutting – we asked Steve if he could read, watch, listen to and own one thing, what would they be. Here’s what he told us…
"On the reading a book thing, I would proudly say the Harry Potter series, I revisited them recently with my daughter, alongside current affairs!"
"Watching would be a Peter Kaye loop - something to make me lol, no matter how many times you watch it."
"Listening wise, anything from Tears for Fears, through to Massive Attack, through to Sasha, however I'd throw Graham Norton on Radio 2 in there for a bit of company!"
"Owning, well, that's one's easy... A Porsche 911. The basic model would be fine. Any offers?"
