News from the Roost

By Chatter, on 23rd November 2017

This article is over a year old. We've probably got some more recent, relevant content than this - why not check out the latest on what we think?

This month we've been down to Sheffield to raise the profile of the fabulous team at Sky Betting & Gaming as well as partaking in the fundraising of their second annual charity ball, and we've celebrated El’s wedding as she finally tied the knot to become Mrs. Cairns…

Our Made in Sheffield event made their day

One of Sky Betting & Gaming's big challenges is to continue raising the profile of their Sheffield location - especially their tech roles - amongst locals who weren't aware that they had such a game

changing business on their doorstep.

So, we headed down to not-so-sunny Sheffield to help the gang at SBG target people who actually commute away from the city for tech related jobs.

From 7am to 7pm, we invaded the station with clean graffiti and digital posters, and kept tired commuters ticking over with flapjack and coffee to remind them that working for SBG in Sheffield could mean more time at home and less time on dreaded trains.

Overall, the day was a huge success. We met a ton of interesting people, and we're pretty confident that we made their day by telling them that they could do the job they love in the city they love. In fact, we reckon that many of them will soon be new faces on SBG Sheffield’s tech team!

Having a Ball

Earlier this month, we all got suited and booted and headed down the road to the Royal Armouries for the second annual Sky Betting & Gaming charity ball.

This year, they’ve been partnered with Give a Duck; a Yorkshire based charity who work to get every child suffering with cancer a chemo duck. These ducks are so that specialist

s can show children and their families what to expect when they start their treatment. Since the evolution of this wonderful idea, Give a Duck have raised enough funds to gift every child in Yorkshire with a chemo duck, and now they plan to get one to every child across the country. What a great cause!

The evening was kicked off in style with some brass infused nineties club classics for Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, followed by a couple of moving speeches from chief exec Richard Flint and lovely guys at Give a Duck.

Then, after a top notch three course #whatsfortea, we got lucky on the virtual horse race with Paul placing the winning bet on the horse Kim Jong Run and bagging a private box at the Ascott races this summer. Other fundraising activities included a silent auction and a rafflewith some more amazing prizes. The rest of the evening saw us living up to our name and dancing the night away to the sounds of the Funk Soul Family.

Having raised £27,000 in the lead up to the ball, and an extra further £30,000 on the night, it’s fair to say they completely smashed their target of £25,000... Get in!

Here’s what Fiona Barker from SBG had to say about the evening:

“We raised over £57,000 for Leeds based Children’s Cancer Charity Give a Duck, in what was a hugely entertaining and successful Charity Gala Ball!

Chatter supported us on the night with pre-event comms including a registration website and e-invite which looked great and gave a slick yet fun feel to the event.  Everything our guests saw on the night from the brochures, menus and videos were designed by the lovely team at Chatter – and helping to kick start the fundraising pot, they even sponsored the Photobooth on the night! – Thanks to the team and to Saskia who made the perfect Account Manager for this sort of engaging event.”

El’s Bells

Last month, wedding bells were ringing in the Roost as our Miss Scales became Mrs Cairns.

On a surprisingly beautiful and sunny October day, East Riddlesden Hall saw Greg and El tie the knot. But more importantly, we turned out in force for the first Chatter wedding. Exciting times, indeed!

In fact, we were so excited that for most of the night we were the only ones on the dance floor, throwing some shocking dance moves as the rest of the party watched on in horror.

Now, one month in, El has this evaluation of married life so far:

‘I always said that one day Greg would make a lovely wife, and now that’s true’.

Congratulations to the lovely couple, we wish you all best in married life!
