As one of the world's most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies, it made sense for Atkins to work with one of the *cough* world's most respected *cough* recruitment communications agencies.
And one of the projects we helped them out with was a social media driven campaign that ran across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram, Monday to Friday, for four weeks. All to seek out and attract a number of transport planners, who are pretty rare on the ground.
Not only did it generate lots of interest internally and externally, the campaign was nominated for an industry award. As it was so successful, Atkins decided to run it again a few weeks later. Phew.
We caught up with Katie, Atkins’ Talent Attraction Analyst to find out more about how they put social media to work.
How did you get into the industry?
Like most people, I didn’t dream of going into recruitment when I was a child. I sort of fell into it after a career change from PR and I’m so glad I did as not many people can genuinely say that they love their job. After a few years of recruiting, I moved into employer branding and recruitment marketing. I’m currently responsible for supporting the creation and delivery of a talent attraction plan for the UK and Europe at Atkins which also incorporates a detailed annual social media plan. I’m passionate about bringing the Atkins brand and culture to life and showcasing the innovative work that our amazing teams do through marketing, advertising and social media.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career?
Do what you love. I’ve never really focused on money or position in my career. I’ve always just tried to do the best job that I can and have always gravitated towards jobs, work and companies I truly enjoyed. By doing that, I’ve developed a series of wonderful career experiences.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the HR sector?
Get work experience and explore all areas of HR until you find out what you like and don’t like. Continuously explore and experiment within the HR profession to find which specialities and options you find most compelling and exciting.
What’s the best thing about working with Chatter?
Chatter are one of the most creative and innovative companies we’ve had the pleasure to work with. They’ve been a huge part of the driving force behind our new tone of voice on social media, which has really helped enhance our employer brand.
What are you reading, watching and listening to at the moment?
I’m reading Middlesex, which is about an American hermaphrodite identifying as a male. I’m a very slow reader so I’ve probably been on this book for over a year, no joke. But this is no reflection on the book. I’d give it a 4 out of 5.
Watching- I’m ridiculously excited for season 3 of Billions this week! I was Team Axe all the way but I’m leaning towards Team Chuck now.
Listening - I’ve recently got into podcasts on my commute. The High Low is brilliant- a weekly news, pop-culture and current affairs podcast.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Taylor Swift and Love Island….!! Not sure why I just admitted to both…
Three words to describe yourself?
Loyal, kind & *ahem* disorganised!
What fact would surprise people about you?
I was a baby model and did a Pepsi advert for Egyptian TV!
