Did you know it’s likely that just 3-7% of your followers are actually seeing your posts on LinkedIn? That’s because only 16.2% of LinkedIn users are active every day, and less than half of users are active every month (Source: The Social Shepherd). So even if you have 100k followers or more, most of them will never see your content.
Whilst we might be LinkedIn regulars (more than we’d maybe like to admit), a lot of people only head there when they’re actively searching for a new role. Which leaves us with the question – how can you get in front of users more regularly, without having to put too much effort into it?
That’s where the LinkedIn newsletter comes in.
The (relatively) new feature uses LinkedIn’s built in ‘Article’ functionality. It lets you create curated stories that are an easy way to get your most important content in front of your followers, even if they aren’t scrolling through your feed every day.
So, getting in front of users more regularly? Check. Not too much extra time? Check.
But there’s even more benefits than that. Here’s our top 5 reasons why Newsletters should be part of your Employer Brand content strategy:
-
It’s easy to use
- A simple drag and drop modular functionality means you can create a newsletter that’s as simple or as complex as you like. You can add in your own imagery, embed popular posts, and send readers to wherever you like, all within a foolproof CMS.
-
Your followers are automatically invited to subscribe
- You don’t need to spend hours inviting every one of your 300,000 followers to subscribe to your newsletter. As soon as you set it up, all of your existing followers, and any new followers, are automatically invited at the click of a button. -
Share as often as you like
- Whether you want to do a monthly round-up like we do here at Chatter, ad hoc it, or do a weekly edition like the lovely folk over at @Dunelm, it’s up to you and how much capacity you have, and what your audience want from you -
They’re multi-functional
- General round ups, regular blogs, campaign touchpoints or hot job eShots. Each edition of your newsletter can be whatever you need it to be, it's really up to you. Just remember, keeping people reading is all about adding value to their feed! -
And our favourite – they drop straight into your followers’ email inboxes
- Your audience doesn't need to be on LinkedIn to see your newsletter. If they’re subscribed, they’ll get a copy delivered to their email inbox. This helps get in front of passive audiences, and also gives them a simple overview of what’s been going on since they last checked in on you.
And that’s why we think LinkedIn Newsletters are one of the most overlooked and under utilised tools across employer branding social media. They’re a way to get relevant, important information directly to your followers, even when they aren’t browsing.
Here’s a couple of our favourites:
-
Chatter & Verse – our very own (of course). We use ours as a monthly round up of everything going on across the agency. It helps us focus our time on sharing the most relevant content and updates from throughout the month, even when we’re too busy to be constantly sharing on socials.
-
The Everything Edit from Asda – in a business like Asda, there’s always so much going on. Too much to keep on top of as a follower. That’s why we curate and publish a newsletter on their behalf every month. It gives their subscribers a round up of the most important things they need to know, as well as keeping their Employer Brand in their minds.
-
Dunelm’s Technology Newsletter – short, sharp, and to the point. Their frequent editions give a glimpse into Technology at Dunelm. They focus on getting colleagues to create their own blogs and articles to showcase the work they’re doing. And that’s great for giving people a window into life in the team and the work they do.
